The Moore
Only a few blocks away from the Hudson River and Penn Station, The Moore hotel sits on a serene street of New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. This street, lined with mature trees and historic churches gives The Moore a feeling of respite and solitude in a part of the city full of commotion.
In the 1800s, Chelsea was an industrial gold mine, home to companies like Manhattan Gas Company, and distilleries for turpentine and camphene. The creation of the Hudson River Railroad then made Chelsea a popular transit port and loading dock for national goods. Now, classic brownstones, modern townhouses, and about 350 contemporary art galleries populate the streets of this iconic neighborhood.
The Moore sits near the corner of 22nd and 8th Avenue, standing on a strong foundation of red bricks and beautifully arched windows. Close to Midtown Manhattan, we expected the area to be more commercialized, but West 22nd street proves that even in areas of intense industrialization, there will always be room for beautiful streets and quaint, down-to-earth businesses in New York City.
Upon arrival at The Moore, we were greeted by a warm, welcoming concierge. The foyer is intimate, making it so the concierge can provide full attention to the guests checking in. Adjacent to the front desk is a small, wrap around banquet where morning coffee and fresh pastries are served. The concierge acts both as a front desk manager, and barista, delivering piping hot coffee and sweet treats to guests upon their arrival.
In contrast to the artistic detail of the lobby, rooms at The Moore are minimalist in design. The simple, yet efficient, model of the rooms is perfect for the traveler who’s in and out, enjoying what New York has to offer or jumping from meeting to meeting on a work trip. The Moore thrives on having everything a busy guest could need, but nothing more. A comfortable stay, but with absolutely no frills.
There is a simple rooftop seating area, “Moore Wine,” that may be open if you visit during spring, summer or early fall where guests can lounge in the sun and have a moment of peace or mingle.
The Moore is strategically located near multiple subway stations, Penn Station, and Madison Square Garden, making it even more fit for the businesswoman coming into town. If you’re unsure where your New York excursions will take you, The Moore is centrally located to reach up or downtown with ease.
The Moore is not for those searching for a luxurious or ostentatious stay. Instead, they pride themselves on centralization, comfortability, and sleek efficiency, urging you to actually explore the city for the excitement and experience you are there for.
Undisturbed ease, stylish simplicity, and solitude await behind the brick walls and black rimmed windows of The Moore, priming you for endless adventures the moment you step out on to Chelsea’s precious 22nd st.
